Genesis 4:3 - Additional Comments

Cain tried to establish his own righteousness, not submitting to God's (Romans 10:3). People do this today. They attempt to establish their own righteousness, through religion, through joining a church, and by doing good things. They do many things that look to others as good things, as the right things, even as what God would have them to do, but it's not. That's because they are comfortable being religious, because it fills a need (like placating guilt), but have not really asked God what He wants, with a willing and open heart.
