Genesis 46:3 - Additional Comments
Why would God say "do not fear" unless God knew Jacob feared to go to Egypt?
Also it must have been strange leaving Canaan, because that was the land God gave to Abram as the promised land (12:7).
God is revealing His will for Jacob directly, so at least for Jacob it was crystal clear. Now, he has a decision to make - follow God, or ignore Him.
For the rest of us it is not so easy to know God's will. George Mr set out to ascertain the will of God on a daily basis - "I seek at the beginning to get my heart into such a state that it has no will of its own in regard to a given matter. Nine-tenths of the trouble with people generally is just here. Nine-tenths of the difficulties are over come when our hearts are ready to do the Lord's will, whatever it may be. When one is truly in this state, it is usually but a little way to the knowledge of what His will is."
God once again reiterates His promise that they would become a great nation.
They will remain in Egypt for 430 years until the exodus in 1445 BC.
