Genesis 6:14 - Additional Comments

Both the Hebrew (also Exodus 2:3-5) word for ark means "chest" or "box", as does the Greek word (Matt 24:38, Luke 17:27, Heb 11:7, 1 Peter 3:20). It was probably more a box than a ship. It was not intended for navigation, only for flotation.
This is the only place in the Bible where gopher wood is mentioned. It is unclear what type of wood it was, but it must have been well-known and plentiful in Noah's day. Some suggest it was cypress wood -- even the NIV translates it as such. It is thought to have been a resinous wood, and the resin of the wood was used to make the pitch used to seal the ark.
The Hebrew term for rooms literally means "nest". They were probably varying size pens.
What will God ask you to do? It certainly could not be more bizarre or create more stir than what God asked Noah to do! Will you trust that what God asks you to do is ultimately for the best?
