And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.

Hosea 1:4 - Additional Comments

Jezreel was the name of one of the royal centers of the kings of Israel. It was a beautiful city, seated in a pleasant valley, and it is with allusion to that city that this child is called Jezreel, for God will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, from whom the present king, Jeroboam, had descended. The house of Jehu hurt because of the sins of Jehu.
