Isaiah 7:3 - The Message

Then God told Isaiah, "Go and meet Ahaz. Take your son Shear-jashub (A-Remnant-Will-Return) with you. Meet him south of the city at the end of the aqueduct where it empties into the upper pool on the road to the public laundry. Tell him, Listen, calm down. Don’t be afraid. And don’t panic over these two burnt-out cases, Rezin of Aram and the son of Remaliah. They talk big but there’s nothing to them. Aram, along with Ephraim’s son of Remaliah, have plotted to do you harm. They’ve conspired against you, saying, ’Let’s go to war against Judah, dismember it, take it for ourselves, and set the son of Tabeel up as a puppet king over it.’

Isaiah 7:3 - Additional Comments

This is the only scripture that mentions Isaiah's son Shear-Jashub. His name means "a remnant shall escape or return to God" - probably named because Isaiah could foresee the demise of Israel and Judah, but yet he could be encouraged because there would still be some left who would follow God. Some predict the coming evangelical collapse (see http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0310/p09s01-coop.html). We may be discouraged by the continuing demise of Christianity in our country, but way we also know that there will be a remnant for Him. What are the evidences in your life that you will be part of the remnant, or will you be part of the demise? What are the evidences in your life?
Why does God tell Isaiah to take his son with him? It is not to prophesy, for that is Isaiah's job. It is to show him how to obey, how to be a man of God. Do you show your spouse, your children, your friends, your coworkers, how to obey and follow God?
