Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet.

James 4:7 - Additional Comments

So, for God's blessing and grace, we are to submit ourselves to God, and resist the devil.
Wow, if we resist the devil, God's promise is that he will flee from us! What are we waiting for?! Or do we just keep the devil are arms length, not fully resisting him, allowing him to get closer during weak moments? We are to send the devil far away, and draw close to God (vs 8). God promises not just grace (vss 5-6), but that He Himself will draw close to us (vs 8).
There is a battle waging. We are not to be double-minded, keeping both the devil and God close, being friends with both the world and with God. It doesn't work, and God knows our hearts. You can only love one or the other (Matt 6:24).
