This is amazing. King Zedekiah imprisoned Jeremiah for telling the truth! The enemies had even built seige ramps outside the city! (vs 24) Maybe the king would rather have just not known what was to come? Here is a classic case of 'shoot the messenger'. It wasn't Jeremiah doing these things to Judah, it was God. And, God has specifically requested Jeremiah to say these things, so the king was asking Jeremiah to defy God. Instead, the king was the one defying God.
They only wanted prophets to tell them what they wanted to hear, not the truth:
2 Tim 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
2 Tim 4:4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
