John 1:26 - Additional Comments

Note false prophets generally try to bring attention to themself. Since John was trying to place himself aside and Jesus as the focus of worship, this is more evidence to the truth of John's words.
John begins to convey his primary purpose - to pave the way for Jesus, who is the Christ.
John notes that the priests and scribes do not know Jesus. They never would get to know Him. Interesting that John speaks of them this way, even though He did not know yet that Jesus was the Christ (vs 33).
