John 10:4 - Additional Comments

Notice the shepherd leads the sheep, instead of driving them. First, because they will follow, since they know his voice. Second, to catch any danger that might meet his sheep, so he can turn it away before it gets to the sheep. This is the Shepherd we have, One who goes before us to turn away danger before it can get to us - Psalm 127:1.
We are His sheep. In what way? We totally depend on Him for protection (from wolves - Acts 20:29, Matt 7:15) and care and food. Do you? What parts of your life have you turned over to Him? Or maybe I should ask, what parts of your life have you not turned over to Him? Are you afraid of what He may want? Why?
Are you His sheep? Then, do you hear His voice? Do you listen for His voice?
Why do you think the sheep knew the shepherd's voice? It was because they had spent so much time with him. They didn't have to study all those who might call who there were not to follow, they only needed to intimately know the one voice. How well do you know your Shepherd's voice, so when He calls, you know it's Him, and not another trying to draw you in the wrong direction?
