John 10:5 - Additional Comments
We need to know Jesus so well that when a false voice speaks we will not follow, even flee from it.
For years we have listened to the wrong voice, that is why we so often still listen to it. We need to stay away from the old voices, and delve deeply into Jesus' voice.
Notice that as we all hear the voice of Jesus and follow, we cannot but walk as one towards Him. It seems disunity only stems from His sheep not recognizing His voice. If they all hear His voice and follow in the same path, how can there be but complete harmony and unity? They are focused on each other, or listening to the thieves and robbers, but focused on Him.
In much the same way that God and Jesus are our Shepherds, the pastor or overseer is a shepherd. In Eph 4:11, in discussing spiritual gifts, the word for "pastors" is the same word translated in most cases as "shepherd". "Shepherd" is a specific spiritual gift. The shepherds in a church have the same responsibilities of a shepherd -- protection, care, and feeding of the sheep.
