All those others are up to no good—sheep stealers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the Gate. Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. John 10:6 - Additional Comments

Why didn't the Pharisees understand? I expect not because it was hard to understand, but because they did not recognize the voice of God in Jesus. If they were sheep of God they would have heard and followed. This is an important verse, because by not understanding it declares the position of the Pharisees.
Are you closer to the Pharisees or the sheep who followed? When He speaks do you follow? Some of us don't listen, and others hear but ignore.
Realize that the most learned of men can so easily miss the truths of God. See 1 Cor 1:18-29).
