John 14:5 - Additional Comments

Thomas is bold to contradict Jesus, instead of querying what it is they know. (But at least he tries to find out - do you try to find out where God is going?) Thomas feels Jesus hasn't told them, so how could they know? He was not expecting Jesus' death, but was curious as to where He would be traveling.
They didn't know because their preconceived idea of where Jesus was going (earthly kingdom) was so strong that they couldn't see what Jesus had been trying to tell them all along. They put Jesus in a box, as we often do today. How are you putting God and Jesus in a box? You expect so little from Him, and are surprised whenever He ventures outside of your view of the box. Allow God the freedom to be who He is, the creator and controller of the Universe, who wants the best for you, who has the will and power to make it happen, and will.
