Verse 10 says we abide in His love by obeying Him, and here it says that loving others is a commandment we are to obey. So, by loving others we are abiding in Christ's love. And, we see the extreme example of loving others, the one Jesus gives us, in that He loved us so much He died for us (verse 13).
