These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

These things were spoken so the disciples might know the cost, so they would count the cost.
Plus, it is easier to fight an expected visitor than to be caught offguard. To be forewarned is to be fore-armed.
offended (to stumble); to entrap, i.e. trip up (fig. stumble [trans.] or entice to sin, apostasy or displeasure):--(make to) offend.
This is why Jesus has been speaking these words, to help keep the disciples from stumbling. He wants to give them ammo to be strong, to maintain.
