This is evidence that Jesus body was not stolen, for if stolen, they would not have taken the time to unwrap Jesus, nor to fold the linen carefully. This was fine linen (Mark 15:46). Ordinarily thieves would steal the clothes, not the body, but this was exceptional circumstances.
When Jesus' body was wrapped, it probably was not clothed, or at least possibly what he wore on the cross. Another miracle was that Jesus obtained clothes to appear in after the resurrection.
The laying aside of the grave clothes also signified that death had no hold on Jesus (Romans 6:9).
