Here Jesus begins one of the few documented conversations in His life. This conversation must have special merit for it to become noted in Scripture.
This seems to come about by happenchance, an accidental meeting, yet it had great eternal value. We should look at our happenchance meetings for the eternal purpose in them.
Here Jesus asks for a drink, understandably, because He is thirsty. But in reality He knows how the conversation will turn, so He probably would have asked the same question regardless of His state.
