John 6:1 - Additional Comments

In chapter 5, Jesus had healed the man at the pool of Bethesda, in Jerusalem, who had had his infirmity for 38 years (5:5). In this chapter, Jesus had traveled north about 70 miles to the Sea of Galilee.
Chapter 6 is an interesting chapter, because Jesus is trying to explain who He is, and all they are looking for is bread and miracles. By the end of the chapter, most of His disciples leave Him, never to return.
The miracle in verses 1-13 is also found in Matthew 14:15-21; Mark 6:33-44; Luke 9:11-17. This is the only miracle found in all 4 gospels. John does not usually relate what had been recorded by those who wrote before him.
Tiberius is a city west of the Sea which Herod had lately enlarged and beautified, and called so in honor of Tiberius the emperor.
