John 8:12 - Additional Comments

Light is the name of the Messiah - Dan 2:22. God is perfectly light, without any darkness (1 John 1:5).
Jesus came to this earth not only to redeem man but also to reveal God to man. Jesus does so by using the commonplace things like bread, light, and water to reveal to us that not only does God self-exist, but that He also meets our every need. Jesus said, "I am the bread of life" (John 6:35), "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12), "I am the door" (John 10:9), "I am the good shepherd" (John 10:11), "I am the resurrection, and the life" (John 11:25), "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6), and "I am the vine, ye are the branches" (John 15:5).
What does darkness symbolize?
1. Metaphorically symbolizes ignorance (to be without understanding, Job 12:24-25) and death
2. Figuratively of morally corrupt - John 3:19
Paul describes those who walk in darkness - Eph. 4:17-19.
Jesus' light solves each of these problems.
1. Light exposes deeds - John 3:20
2. Light helps with direction (this verse, and John 12:35, 14:6)
