Jonah 1:1 - Additional Comments

It appears the book of Jonah was written long after this took place, because in 3:3 it says that Nineveh "was" a great city.
Jonah was a native of Gath-hepher (2 Kings 14:25), which was west of the Sea of Galilee (Josh 19:10-13). He lived during the reign of Jeroboam II (790-749 BC), who was an evil king, but he helped recover some of Israel's lost territory (2 Kings 14:25).
