Joshua 1:3 - Additional Comments

God had a plan for the nation of Israel, His body of believers, i.e. the church of that day. He still has plans for His church today. See Jer 29:11. God's word tells us what He wants the church to do today. This is the foundation of every purpose today, and anything His church is to do today must be founded on His word.
His true church is made up only of Christians. His church consists of individual Christians, families devoted to Christ, and churches devoted to Christ, like Aloma Baptist. The church is defined by our relationship with God (includes worship), our attitudes (Phil 2:5-8, Rom 12:18), especially towards each other (Ps 133:1, 1 Jn 3:14, John 13:35), and our service (Heb 10:24-25, Phil 4:3).
How the church is defined, the nature and make up of the actual church, should be progressively moving towards God's will.
God's church is to fulfill His general will as described in His word.
In addition to God's general will for His church, He also has a specific will, for individuals, for families, and for bodies of believers.
Each person should attempt to discover God's will for him as an individual, for his family, and for the body of believers he worships with, so he can align himself with that will. His will is not revealed all at once, but is being revealed on a daily basis.
Every believer has a role to play in fulfilling God's will for His church. To fulfill your role, understand the sequence of activities -
- Values - what is ultimately important to me; the common thread that supports all decisions and actions
- Purpose - "why" - what gives meaning to the work
- Vision - seeing what could be; a compelling image of the future; for us, vision is seeing things as they could be; for God, vision is seeing things as they will be; here is where we need to discover what God's will is
- Mission - the single objective of the Vision; the high-level "what"
- Goals - set goals to accomplish the mission
- Actions - what work will be done to accomplish the goals (regularly review the actions to how they fit into the rest)
