Luke 10:25 - Additional Comments

The lawyer's intent was not to learn, but to trick Jesus in conversation, maybe practicing his self-admired legal debate skills. He was possibly trying to draw out something bizarre from Jesus, so he could show Jesus to be false. He gets the opposite. Even lawyers, probably the most skilled debaters, could not successfully argue with Jesus. Too bad that was the lawyer's intent, for here was the designer and ruler of the Universe, and what great things he could have learned.
God will destroy the "wisdom" of the wise of the earth - 1 Cor 1:19-21. There are still things we don't understand, but we need to trust God and His word.
Note that even the most noble conversation, with the wrong heart or motives, may be profane. But God can still use it for His glory - Phil 1:15-18. If you say the right things but with the wrong heart, it is empty and vanity, although God can still use it (Phil 1:15-18).
We are here being taught what good we can do on earth towards eternal life. See Matt 7:21 - he who calls Him Lord, and who does God's will, shall inherit the kingdom of heaven.
