In this conversation that has the tone of a legal debate, Jesus concedes to the lawyer his point, for it was perfect, yet at the same time shows His authority over the lawyer by telling him was truth is ("you have answered rightly"), and telling the lawyer the powerful results if these commands are followed - eternal life. For, Jesus is the author of eternal salvation and of our faith (Heb 5:9, 12:2).
Though the lawyer does well in the discussion, Jesus is in control.
