Luke 10:33 - Additional Comments

The Priest represents ritualism and ceremonialism, which cannot save a person.
The Levite represents legalism, which cannot save a person - Gal 2:16; Rom 8:3-4.
The two "religious" experts failed to act in the way of God, yet the "pagan" did. Religion has little value without the heart and actions that honor God. Avoid being "religious" and focus on God.
How you love people shows your relationship with God.
- John 5:39 "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me."
- John 5:42 "But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you."
- John 13:35 "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
- Read 1 John 3:10-18, 5:2-3.
See the notes on John 4:9 about Samaritans. This is a Samaritan in enemy territory. He has just told one of his enemies (a Jewish landlord), "Here is my Visa card. Do whatever you need to do to take care of him." Talk about vulnerability!!!
Vulnerability may be needed when loving others. When you move toward someone else, you might be hurt. But you must be willing to sacrifice and be vulnerable, and take the chance of being hurt.
