Where did this come from? It appears the discussion of who would betray him led each apostle to thinking not me, as Peter stated (vs 33). In fact, each apostle was thinking they were so far away from betraying Jesus, they must be the greatest of the apostles.
Those apostles sure had their focus on the wrong things. Lest we marvel at their selfishness and lack of direction, we must look at ourselves and how often our focus is on the wrong things. Or, even more dangerous, lest we think we are above any sin. Of the 450 church leaders who fell to sexual sin, most never suspected it could happen to them. We must be afraid, very afraid, that we may fall to temptation. And that is why we need to stay as far away as we can (Prov 4:14-15).
