Luke 24:18

And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

Cleopas could have been rude, but was very civil in his answer.
They couldn't imagine someone being in Jerusalem and not knowing what had happened. In reality there was probably hardly a soul there who didn't.
