Luke 7:39 - Additional Comments

Both Jesus and the Pharisee saw the woman, but each saw something very different. Jesus saw her as God did, through the grace of forgiveness - a pure and righteous spirit. All the Pharisee saw was a person without any worth.
In the same vein, both the Pharisee and the woman, when they looked at Jesus, saw and felt something very different.
What makes the difference? It is whether we look at people through the world's eyes or through God's eyes. See the lyrics below. How can we have our Father's eyes? Be conformed to the image of Jesus (Rom 8:29, Phil 3:21), for if we have seen Him, we have seen the Father (John 14:7). This is God's goal for us, and we need to see life as God's continuous effort to move us towards that goal.
- We are to put on the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom 13:14)
- We are being transformed into the image of Christ (2 Cor 3:18)
- When Jesus is revealed, we will be like Him (1 John 3:2).
Here is part of the lyrics from "Father's Eyes" by Amy Grant:
When people look inside my life, I want to hear them say,
She's got her father's eyes,
Her father's eyes;
Eyes that find the good in things,
When good is not around;
Eyes that find the source of help,
When help just can't be found;
Eyes full of compassion,
Seeing every pain;
Knowing what you're going through
And feeling it the same.
Just like my father's eyes,
