Luke 9:59 - Additional Comments

When he asks to bury his father, what that meant was let me stay home with my family and take care of them until my father passes away.
This one has seen what Jesus said to the other, the following Him would be nomadic, never settling in. He did not want that - he wanted to stay with his family for an unknown amount of time. He was really trying to avoid committing to Jesus, and Jesus knew that. Jesus was commenting (vs 60) on the man's priorities. Jesus isn't saying to neglect the family, he's putting the family in perspective of our dedication to Him. Jesus makes this clear with the next person who asks a similar question (vss 61-62).
