Malachi 3:5 - Additional Comments

God is clear - those in righteousness are pleasant to Him (vs 3-4), but He also gives judgment to those out of righteousness. Here is listed some of what God detests.
- sorcerers - those who forsake God to consult with the father of lies for knowledge and direction
- adulterers - those who seek the desires of the flesh over the desire for God
- perjurers - liars, deceivers, those who cannot be trusted (when you tell someone you will do something, can you be trusted to do that?)
- those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans - instead of helping the weak, the bring them further down (James 1:27)
- those who turn away an alien - we are to help strangers in addition to those we know
For what reason do they do those things? They do not fear God. They may believe in God, but they don't fear Him, not His judgments. In the "scared straight" work, juvenile offenders saw hardened prisoners in hardened jails, to put fear in them. If only the offenders of God could see what was ahead for them, so they would have the fear of God, and be "scared straight".
