Mark 1:2 - Additional Comments
The prophesy that John would come - Malachi 3:1-3, 4:1-6. It refers to John as Elijah. See also Mat 17:10-12, Mat 11:14, Mark 9:11-13, and Luke 1:17.
But curiously, John denies being Elijah. See John 1:19-23. He was not Elijah as they had expected, the same prophet of old coming again - he was the new Elijah.
This quote comes from Malachi 3:1 and Isaiah 40:3.
