Mark 10:17 - Additional Comments

This person is a young man (Matthew 19:20-22), and a ruler (Luke 18:18). Since he was running, approached Jesus in public, and knelt before Him, he came in humility, not concerned about how he appeared in his arrival.
He seems very concerned, maybe desperate, for an answer. This may have been something he has been seeking for a long time. Note that he did not come looking for something worldly (but this may have been because he was wealthy, and had few worldly needs).
He certainly asks with good intentions, not as the lawyer who asks the same question, but to test Jesus -- Luke 10:25.
Note that the man showed Jesus respect, both by kneeling, and also by calling Him "Good Teacher".
It's odd how he asks -- he asked to "inherit" eternal life. The Greek for "inherit" refers to being owed an inheritance, as one who is an heir. He is asking how he can position himself to be one who is an heir to eternal life.
Note that the Sadducees did not believe in eternal life.
