Mark 10:22 - Additional Comments

God warns about how both poverty and riches can be distracting from God -- Proverbs 30:8-9.
The man may have wanted to live forever, but he did not want to live for God.
Note that Christ let Him go. He does not force anyone to follow Him. He does not keep anyone against their will. They must make the choice.
He came to exactly the perfect person who could answer his quest, his question, yet presented with the precise solution, it was too great to bear. He even probably agreed that, yes, this was the correct thing to do, but he could not bring himself to do that.
** How often do we struggle in life, having certain issues or problems, yearning for a solution? Then, when the solution is presented, we may even know it's right, but do not follow the advice, because the cost is too great? One can only pity us, because we have the solution for success before us, but ignore it.
We may pity this man for his decision, yet he is more like most of us than we care to admit. Most (if not all!) continue to harbor something that comes between them and God that they are not willing to give up. Yet only God can bring true success, joy, and peace (John 14:27).
How many today want the security of staying out of hell without obeying God.
This man walked away from God. He probably never had peace the rest of his life, for he knew specifically what God had called him to do, and he turned away from it.
