Mark 10:45 - Additional Comments

Jesus gave His life for others. Our challenge is to do that on a daily basis. Think about the things you have done recently for others that required some effort, maybe out of the ordinary. For your family members, did you set aside something in your plans for them? It might even be something as simple as getting up early or not watching some TV to help. How about a neighbor? It might be not getting something done in your house so you could help them. How about at work? It might be having to make an extra effort with your responsibilities so you could help someone with theirs. How about at church? It might have been helping in an area you don't normally help in. Jesus gave His life, not just at the end, but also every day, for others as the example that we are to follow.
Even more critical that the act was Jesus' attitude during His service. He had compassion for people, and was glad to serve them. Do you make others have to notice how great your sacrifice was for them, or is your goal to do it so they don't even notice? Do they feel you are glad to help? Do you make them feel like it is an imposition for you, or that serving them is a delight for you? Don't neglect to serve others, and honor God in your attitude during that time.
Isn't it interesting that in this short speech Jesus gave us the keys to success in life? Jesus was telling them if you wish to have a great life, if you wish to be a success in life, then do these things, the opposite of what your natural inclination, and the opposite of what the world tells you. As we train the young for life, beyond college or any other formal training, the most important lesson they can learn in life to be a success is this simple thing, simple to say, yet so difficult to continually practice. "Whoever desires to become great among you shall be the servant to all."
