Mark 13:1 - Additional Comments
This takes place during the Passion Week, shortly before His crucifixion.
May we remember the words of God, in Gen 1:26 - "Let Us make man in Our image". Notice the "Us". Jesus was there, involved in the creation of man. Not only did God and Jesus create man with his nervous system, muscular system, skeletal system, etc., and how marvelous that is, but on top of that God created our souls, and life in our bodies, and a soul in our bodies. May we stand in awe of that!
Even though the buildings were admirable, Jesus did not dwell on that. I can see Jesus looking at a transformed soul, and marveling at the beauty of it.
See how Jesus has spent 3 years trying to teach them to value and marvel at eternal things, and yet how amazed they are at these temporal buildings. (Jesus clarifies things in the next verse.) Yet, this is probably no different than how we would react, for we marvel at the things we see. Oh, if only we could know better of the things unseen, how we would marvel at them! And one day, they will no longer be unseen, and how we will marvel at them.
