Mark 15:19 - Additional Comments

These soldiers probably were generally cruel people, and found their way to mock or hurt many prisoners as they pleased. I suspect Jesus was just one in a long line of mistreated prisoners. Here they had something in particular to mock Him with, for He claimed to be a king.
This was after the scourging. Jesus was already exhausted and near death. They mocked Jesus, for He certainly was no king, and not deserving of it. They did not realize Jesus was their King, and fully deserving of it. They would all find out soon enough. What a shock it must have been to go before the judgment seat, to see Jesus there with God as the judge. Uh-oh!!
