In reality, Jesus said this to focus on the real issue - He came primarily to forgive sins, not to physically heal.
Which is by far the most difficult and greater healing? The spiritual, the forgiveness of sins. Yet Jesus implies it is easier. It is a bit funny, because neither is anywhere within our realm of abilities, so really He is talking more from His perspective.
Also, from the perspective of those listening, how do you answer a question like this, since neither is possible to us?
