She was unclean, according to Leviticus 15:19. She was not permitted to come near people. This may have added to her reasons for fear and trembling. And this flow had lasted for 12 years, so she may have been an outcast during that time. She also may have only been around people because she was hiding who she was, being an outcast. She surely was afraid of being condemned.
