Mark 6:3 - Additional Comments

People often picture Jesus as a child with only Joseph and Mary. The household of Joseph and Mary was a busy household, for Jesus had at least 4 brothers and several sisters (at least 2 because it was plural). So there were at least 9 in their household growing up. When Jesus was 12 years old, and his family went to visit Jerusalem, probably all 9 or so had traveled together; when Jesus was lost, the other children probably stayed with family, and Joseph and Mary went back to look for him (Luke 2:42-51).
These brothers and sisters of Jesus were from the same earthly parents, Joseph and Mary, as Joseph and Mary had relations after Jesus was born (Matt 1:24-25).
