Matthew 1:24 - Additional Comments
We see amazing obedience in Joseph, over and over again. He obeyed without question, and immediately.
- Here he married Mary, believing the report that her pregnancy is from God, and he waited to unite with her until the birth of Jesus.
- In 2:14, Joseph believed and took Mary and Jesus to Egypt.
- In 2:21, Joseph believed and took Mary and Jesus back to Israel.
- In 2:22-23, Joseph believed and took Mary and Jesus to Nazareth in Galilee.
These not only show his belief in God and what was happening, but it also shows his faith in what God had given in Scripture, in the O.T.
He obeyed God, even though he did not know what was ahead.
Surely Mary would have suffered tremendously under the public's scrutiny, but in between her and the lash stood Joseph. He protected her. Surely God in His great wisdom chose Mary to be the mother of His Son, but with equal wisdom He chose Joseph to be the boy's father.
What would God chose you for? Or, should I ask, what has He chosen you for?
How powerful when we obey - our enemies become God's enemies (Exo 23:22).
