And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Matthew 6:5 - Additional Comments

A shofar (ram's horn) was blown from the pinnacle of the temple to call the faithful to prayer. If they were not near enough to pray in the temple at the appointed time, they would pray publicly on the street corners. Jesus isn't really rebuking them for the practice but for their motive.
