Nehemiah 2:1 - Additional Comments

The month of Nisan was similar to our March/April timeframe. This is four months after Chislev, when Nehemiah found out about the state of Jerusalem.
Nehemiah was a man of prayer - he spent 4 months in prayer before he made his request to the king. How much do we pray about important events or decisions before we jump in?
Amazing - for four months Nehemiah was sad and in turmoil over Jerusalem, yet as the cupbearer he had to put on a cheerful face before the king. If the cupbearer wore a sad or disinterested face, he could be suspected of poisoning the king himself. He was not allowed to mourn in front of the king. This was the first point he had broken down a let his face reveal what was in his heart for the past four months.
