Nehemiah 8:4 - Additional Comments

Note there was no formal church building. They built, probably crudely, a platform out of wood, and that became the church! Church is anywhere people meet to hear the word of God, not necessarily just in the building biult for that purpose.
Why did the people come? It had been a long time since the word was read, and they were thirsty. What a shame, both that no one had continued to open God's word before them, and that they had not asked until this time, probably because Nehemiah's zeal whett their appetite for it. What a shame. So, what is the state of the word of God in your house? Has it been a long time since it was openly read? Is there a zeal for his word in your house?
