Philippians 2:1 - The Message

If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.

Philippians 2:1 - Additional Comments

The consolation in Christ we have is an everlasting consolation - 2 Thess 2:16. It will always be with us. We have a permanent comfort in everything.
In the same way, the love we have in Christ is an everlasting love, always with us, in everything - Jer 31:3. Ah, the comfort His love gives to us!
The fellowship we have with the Spirit is also continuous and forever, for the Spirit lives in us (1 Cor 3:16), and we are sealed with the Spirit when we believe (Eph 1:13).
God is ever merciful (Psa 37:26). Mercy can tame the hardest heart. To open a wife/child/parent/friend's closed spirit:
* Become tenderhearted
* Increase understanding
* Recognize the offense
* Attempt to tenderly touch
* Seek forgiveness
These are traits of God that are with us always, therefore we are to always express these same traits to others.
