Philippians 3:7 - The Message
The very credentials these people are waving around as something special, Im tearing up and throwing out with the trash—along with everything else I used to take credit for. And why? Because of Christ. Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant—dog dung. Ive dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him. I didnt want some petty, inferior brand of righteousness that comes from keeping a list of rules when I could get the robust kind that comes from trusting Christ—Gods righteousness.

Philippians 3:7 - Additional Comments
How true this is! Paul gave up all these things (verses 4-6) and probably wealth, to suffer the things listed in 2 Cor 11:24-27. For all that Paul suffered, he still makes this statement, that all he gave up is nothing compared to knowing Christ! Compare that to the rich young ruler, who had a limit of what he was willing to give up -- his money (Luke 18:18-25).
Not only would those things be of no value, but they would be a detriment and a hindrance if Paul trusted in them -- it can be compared to trying to trust the wind to keep you from falling.
Oddly enough, trusting in those riches would have impoverished Paul!
