Where do you get your counsel from? Who are those you take most of your life direction from? Who do you follow? Who do you respect and, even if you don't realize it, try to emulate? Is it those who are listed here, or God through His word? Is it true success, unless it is God and His word at the center? It cannot be. Don't be deceived, as many may be, if the core isn't right. That is the danger in the following -
In advertising one of Zig Ziglar's book, we find this advertisement - "Zig Ziglar has dedicated his life to teaching people the art of successful living. Multitudes attribute their success to having attended a Zig Ziglar lecture or audio program. In his newest program, Zig shares his most intimate personal discoveries of what makes a truly significant life. As Zig delves into the hows and whys of living life with values, character, honesty, integrity and sensitivity, youlearn to be more at peace with yourself, accomplish more, and tap into the true joy of living." It's too bad they seem to be missing the central ingredients of success - a relationship with God, and an in depth knowledge and obedience of God's word (see verse 2).
1. We are to walk not in the counsel of the ungodly, those who go their own way (see Prov 14:12). We are to be wary of their advice. It can only be based on their own limited reasoning and logic, rather than the wisdom and logic of the One who created the Universe.
2. We are not to be on the path of sinners; we are not to hang out with the wrong crowd. They have no problems acting contrary to God's word, and may even boast about it. If you get your advice from the sinner, you eventually take up their ways of living.
3. We are not to sit in the seat of the scornful, to accept the reasonings and lifestyles of those who reject and mock (scorn) God. They not only deny God, but exhibit a hatred towards God. They try to remove God from everything.
