His troubles keep him awake at night. He feels he is alone with his troubles.
Henry David Thoreau in Walden said, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation." Even with Christ, many men lead lives like this.
A few men get so desperate because of their troubles and the weight of the world, they bolt, like Jay Carsey in "Exit the Rainmaker".
Yet, we read - Psa 4:8 "I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety."
And, Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You."
In church it is easy to appear like you have things all together. I used to say, let me live with you and your family for a week, and I'd be able to see what you are like. But I've found a better barometer to tell me what the real you is like - tell me what goes on in your mind during the night, like in the first quiet moments before you drift off to sleep. Or maybe when you wake up in the middle of the night. I think then your heart is revealed. Is that time honoring to God?
