Since praise is an attitude of the heart, when we praise Him to our children, it is an outpouring of what is happening in our hearts. When we declare God's works to our children, we are praising them, showing our children the awe and marvel we have for God and His works. The verbal declaration is merely a revealing of the activity already taking place in our hearts.
So, maybe we should not ask how much do you praise God to your children, but how much do you truly praise God in your hearts? The expression to your children is the outpouring of what is inside of you.
We need to be diligent that this outpouring of praise and declaration of God's works to our children can happen in any situation, and should be happening regularly and everywhere. There is really no place where God and His word is not present. These words are truth (John 17:17) and life (Heb 4:12, John 6:63). We must be diligent to convey the words of truth and life to our children!
Deut 6:6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
Deut 6:7 "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Deut 6:8 "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
Deut 6:9 "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Can we say as John did in 3 John 1:4, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."? What greater joy can we have but to give our children truth?!
But what are we to declare to our children? His activity, His might acts, in our lives. We are to live with God in such a way as seeing his direct activity in our lives, giving us plenty of material to pass onto our kids. How can we talk of His mighty acts if we are not living a life of prayer, faith, and trust? God says if we diligently seek Him, He will reward us (Heb 11:6).
