Romans 9:2 - Additional Comments
We see here Paul's great and constant concern for his Jewish brethren, that so many of them had not embraced the salvation that Jesis gives. It was necessary for Paul to make clear his intentions as, in this chapter, he goes on to clearly state God's rejection of them. It is a way of tempering (moliffying) the harsh truths he is about to discuss. The Jews were already keenly agitated by Paul above the other apostles, and these writings could make it worse. He wanted to make clear he was not happy about their fate, yet still was not hesistant to express warning and their fate, similar to Jeremiah (Jer 17:16).
