Jeremiah 2:11 - Additional Comments

The amazing thing was they have abandoned God who is true and glorious and had shown Himself to the Israelites time and again, to embrace something that is totally a waste.
We marvel at them, and feel sad for them.
But then, how many times do we see this happening around us? How many politicians or athletes have embraced mistresses to lose their family, their endorsements, and many times their careers.
How many people have plunged themselves so much into their business that they lose their families?
How many times have people gone after the pleasures of the world, abandoning what they know is right with God, and spiraled down to destruction?
How tempted are you by the delights of the world - money, power, fame, pleasure? There are very few when given the opportunity turn it down to honor what is right with God. Very few. And the only result is their own destruction. You cannot love the things of the world and God.
Challenge yourself. What would it take to draw you away from God? How much money? How beautiful of a spouse? How much power? How much fame?
We need to be scared of our weaknesses, and determine more than ever never to let the world grab our heart. Thank God we never will be tempted beyond what we can handle (1 Cor 10:13).
