The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: "Dont push these children away. Dont ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept Gods kingdom in the simplicity of a child, youll never get in." Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them.

Interesting - these were not handicapped children, yet their parents wanted Jesus to touch them. For what purpose? That their lives would be blessed (vs 16).
It's strange that the disciples did not want the children brought to Jesus. They must have thought it to be a waste of His time. Although much of the culture then was to belittle women and children Jesus changed that, and raised them to the status where we are to value and treat all people equally - for this is the kingdom of God - this is how God operates (vs 14).
