And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

This was not just the 12 disciples, but the hundreds who had been following Jesus.
They praised God for all the mighty works they had seen - all the miracles Christ had wrought, especially the raising of Lazarus, which is particularly mentioned in the parallel passage in John 12:17-18.
Jesus triumphal entry was to go to Jerusalem not to be respected, but to be rejected.
